I think you're talking about something that's more of an import
operation than a pump operation, but more clarity on what pump-patches
would do would certainly be helpful.

If you do, be aware that the internal patch functionality only does
exact patching.  If there's any risk that the files won't match the
source that the patch was generated from, use /usr/bin/patch instead.
