However, as a Ubuntu 10.04 user I believe Benjamin has raised a very important query and I would like to express the importance of keeping the GNOME 2 option as near look-a-like as possible. I am aware that many current Ubuntu users are very worried about losing the GNOME 2 interface or the changes that maybe found in the 12.04 classic option. If you can find a way to keep supporting a GNOME 2 type interface (at least) for the duration of the 12.04 LTS system I am convinced you will have the very best of all worlds, i.e. keeping all the current user base as well as succeed in gaining many new users with the new interface. As the saying goes "if it isn't broke please don't try to fix (or change) it" at least until the new Ubuntu interface has been proven and generally accepted by the user community. I believe this is the safest approach for introducing a new and very different look-and-feel user interface. It's just a config. Previously, it was a GConf key. Now it's been moved to DConf, I think. Not a big deal in any case. But Gnome shouldn't even be considered in this. What should be a goal, is to minimize the difference from 10.04. The best would've been if the "Have to press and hold alt, then right click to customize"-behaviour was removed, imho.
