It would be also interesting to see the dirty page activity of a VM with
tmpfs and without tmpfs. A lot of rapid dirty page activity in a VM
could affect other tenants, aka "The Noisy Neighbour", as well as
chewing through the shared L3 cache. (This may not be an issue in years
to come when features like Intel Platform Shared Resource Monitoring and
Cache Allocation Technology becomes mainstream )
Anyhow, monitoring of data page activity can be achieved using the
soft/dirty bit on Page Table Entries (PTEs) that get set when a page is
written to. I quick way to see the activity is to monitor the VM using
pagemon , however, we may need a more specialised hack^H^H^H^Htool to
get some useful stats on page activity to see the affect of tmpfs on the
host when running in a VM
