Sponsor queue improvements for non core-devs

Hello everybody,

Iain just pushed a fix for this and a few additional items turned up in
the queue.

It would be fantastic if you could take a last look before we release on
Thursday and see if anything should get in before we will have to ship
it as a SRU.
