is it actually a less rare task on a desktop ?

apart from a professional office desktop I'd say printing at home is
nowadays nearly as rare from desktops as it might be from
phones/tablets.

i personally would like to see us handling desktop memory consumption
with the same care as on phones, on a system where you have plenty I/O
(much more than on a phone) it should even do less harm to start it on
demand.
