X transition time!

I just came across this unusual behaviour. I upgraded to the new X server
on Tuesday night, watched a couple of videos (in VLC, with Hardware
Acceleration,) and all was fine. I hadn't rebooted. Somewhere during the
early hours of Wednesday, I must have rebooted, tho I don't recall it. In
the morning when I try to play a video, X segfaults! I disabled Hardware
Acceleration and all was fine! I immediately downgraded packages
*xserver-xorg* and *xorg* and rebooted, but the problem was still present.

Info:
ATI Radeon 5470 with fglrx from the repos

The VLC output:
Warning: call to rand()
Warning: call to rand()
Warning: call to rand()
Warning: call to rand()
Warning: call to rand()
vlc: Fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.
[0x20de5b0] xcb_xv generic error: X server failure

The Xorg.0.log.old showed a Segmentation Fault.

I haven't been able to isolate the problem, not having expertise in these
matters, and hence couldn't decide which package to file a bug against, but
I'm willing to learn. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

PS: Removing fglrx solves the problem, but I think that's more because
Hardware Acceleration is not supported by the radeon drivers at all.
