Point #2 is the most compelling argument for me so far, but your other points
are good ones too.  I do plan to run my analysis over universe, but as it
takes a fairly long time just for main, I haven't started that yet.

Now that Squeeze is out, Piotr is planning on enabling 2.7 in testing, though
I think he needs to wait for Matthias to upload a new python-defaults.  I'm
also going to start going through the known Python 2.7 related bugs in Debian
and see which ones have already been fixed in Ubuntu, submitting those fixes
where appropriate.

This sounds like the most reasonable approach to me.  It also gives us another
two cycles to fix more things before 12.04 LTS is out.
