I agree that the lack of the Active Directory-like systen for Linux is a
problem, at least in some environments (mostly there where there are no
great administrators with a deep knowledge of the Linux ecosystem).

Maybe it would make sense to take a loot at the freeIPA project [1] and
its integration with Ubuntu? Another project worth considering would be
sssd.
