It's apparent in the bug report that the relevant Ubuntu developer and
upstream developer were contacted by email. Unfortunately, they didn't
respond promptly, and the discussion continued without them.
It seems to me that there was goodwill on both sides, and appropriate
process was followed, but for whatever reason, the ball was dropped. This
will happen sometimes no matter how much goodwill we have.
The important thing is that we recognize that people are trying to do the
right thing, and give them the benefit of the doubt. That's the only way
we'll build trust.
