Question on Graphics Programming in ubuntu

Hi All,

I am new to ubuntu. I have a quick question.

Currently I have an X11 program that displays images at a low speed. I am
looking for alternatives. I tried to check directfb but I am not sure of the
status of directfb. The site is down for quite sometime now.

So the question I have is what alternatives I have for displaying images at
a faster rate? fbdev? SDL? OpenGL? Any suggestions?
