It's meant to provide better performance and I/O balancing. If it
actually does that sensibly, wouldn't it be possible that it managed to
speed up the boot sequence rather than slow it down? Perhaps it's
something we want to run very, very /early/ in the boot sequence rather
than as late as possible.
