The steps that Johannes outlines are pretty much what pkgme is aimed to
do, so I think taking a look at it would be beneficial.

What I want to know is what interfaces are required from pkgme to allow
Anjuta (or whatever) to provide the best user experience around this.

If Anjuta forms the core of GNOME's strategy then I'm happy to talk with
