Yes, it was blogged about at [1] and [2]. Both of those blogs are on
planet.ubuntu.com. Even though it was blogged about, I agree that an
email to the mailing lists would have been a good idea. An email to a
list like u-d-a (low volume list) is much easier to notice than a blog
post on the planet (which gets many new posts each day).
