One followup, Martin...

Is /etc/legal (for the legal text) and /etc/profile.d/legal.sh (for
the script) too generic as well?

In my first version, I used /etc/ubuntu-legal and
/etc/profile.d/ubuntu-legal.sh, but I figured Debian (and others)
could potentially use this logic as well, replacing /etc/legal with
whatever their Nazgûl [1] require.
