This is in fact incorrect, at least until OS X 10.6 is released. All releases of OS X up to the latest 10.5 release use 32-bit kernels, at least on Intel hardware. PAE is then used to provide access 
to >4GB of RAM. In 10.6 from what I've read, there will be a true 64-bit kernel.
