And as I understand it, the change had little to do with users hitting
CAB by accident and more to do with software design. The hack there
was unpleasant.
However, the usability gain was a nice side-effect.

If you know what you're doing, I am sure you know how to (or can learn
how to) switch to another tty (Ctrl Alt F2, for example) and run sudo
/etc/init.d/gdm restart (or some such). It's a much smoother way about
such problems :)
