armel bootstrap status

armel is now debootstrapable. if you're unlucky to have an arm-linux machine
available, please setup a chroot and help with the bootstrap.

 debootstrap jaunty <dest> http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports

 debootstrap --variant=buildd jaunty <dest> http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports

When trying to install build dependencies for some packages, you may not find
some package already built. In this case please be patient until the buildds are
finished with these dependencies or ask on #ubuntu-devel for help.

There are around 600 binary packages not yet built in main; the buildds
will be build around 100-150 source packages done per day. In total there are
7000 unbuilt source packages, so it's unlikely to have main and universe be
built before Xmas.

besides having the debootstrap chroots installable, most development stuff, plus
build dependencies are built. the Gtk/Gnome packages are almost all built, KDE
still has some packages early in the dependency chain, failing to build.

The status of installable packages can be tracked at [2]; this usually gives
good hints what could be done next. Packages which might need attention can be
seen in [3].

If you do file bug reports about failing packages please do use the tag
"ftbfs-armel". A list of packages which could need some help can be found at [1].

Please use the ubuntu-devel ML for topics related to the armel port.

  Matthias
