Some configurations are not supported by GRUB, as it works by reading the
filesystem and it does not understand all filesystems and storage
configurations.

The Debian installer, upon which the alternate and server CDS are based,
provides both GRUB and LILO as options, so they are both available to Ubuntu
users as well.
