Hi,

gnome-search-tools (the search interface listed in the panel places
entries) use "locate" if available, it'll fallback to use "find" if it's
not installed though. I'm not sure how many people use this dialog but I
think that the database update is rather an annoyance than a win for
desktop users nowadays
