Cant we just revert to the old solution of 2 CDs? even if not full. It would gives us a maximum of 1.4GiBs, i guess enough for all recommends.
At least as long as the installer can handle the split CDs.
Its way less then a DVD (4GiBs) and still accessible to those with only CDRom drives.
The LiveCD experience on the other hand would be something funky, right?
