IDEs are indeed a problem. The ones I'm familiar with are Geany and
Eclipse. Eclipse hasn't been looked after very well by Ubuntu. Hardy
ships 3.2, but 3.4 is the latest upstream release. 3.4 shipped in June, as they
do every year (http://www.eclipse.org/org/press-release/20080625_ganymede.php).
3.2 was released in 2006, and Ubuntu hasn't shipped a new release
version since then. If you want to develop on Eclipse or Eclipse
itself, Ubuntu isn't helping you.
