bc it's how modern systems oriented towards the desktop user work now.
at this point of time (2006), I don't see the point of expecting end users
to do configuration (especially any cli configuration and playing around
with conf files).

no. it's the effect of having an OS ready to go on your hard drive when
you buy it for a long time.

I am one of those who wants Linux to be an OS that works out of the box.
but this is redundant info, bc otherwise I'd be using LFS or Gentoo.
