How long will 64bit Ubuntu users have to wait?

Uhmmmm...

Uhhh...

But the rest of that developers team may feel differently..

The perception by many is they either develop for propeller-heads or
idiots.  The vast majority of us in the middle are left to deal with the
consequences.

So even if a like-minded developer is found if he's part of a major
project (GNOME, KDE, Ubuntu, Fedora....) that has a different point of
view then we're stuck with the consequences.
