The same could be asked of Telepathy. What does it provide for end
users? Of course, it makes writing an IM client easier, but still...
Such a download manager would, like Mathusalem, allow the user to
manage all downloads from a central place, as well as enabling
applications to download from various sources semi-transparently,
being managed by a central daemon...
