move the ubuntu irc channels to jabber ?

That is nonsense of course. Decent IRC clients don't need "console
commands" or any commands at all.

Not to mention that there are no good scriptable jabber clients, no
usable jabber bots to replace the current ones and no easy way for
windows users to join. More of them know mirc than a jabber client.
