"-generic" was( Re: Optimized kernel builds: the straight dope)

I jump to this post for asking if it is possible to integrate in the 
hardware detection a script detecting the category of the cpu to install 
a i686 kernel when needed by example.
(Only if it is some free space on cd to include kernel-images, or if we 
go to the solution of an install DVD.)
