I have tried installing Ubuntu. Still couldn't run it without swap, so I
have run it with swap and recorded memory and swap usage.

The results and script I have used are on page
http://lichota.net/~krzysiek/projects/kubuntu/ubiquity-memory-usage/
Unfortunately there is no correspondence between samples and actions in
installer. But the script records memory usage and dumps top 5 memory
hungry processes.
I have finished gathering data on "choosing mount points" step.

The high water mark seems to be 272828 KB=266MB. There is a sudden spike
in memory usage. I have noticed on "ps" output that there are _2_
ubiquity processes then:
root 7092 2.6 12.1 60480 29012 ? Ss 15:50 0:13
/usr/bin/python /usr/bin/ubiquity gtkui
root 11150 0.0 7.7 59452 18588 ? D 15:58 0:00
/usr/bin/python /usr/bin/ubiquity gtkui

I will prepare such graph also for Kubuntu for comparison.
