Frank, I appreciate your effort in making a spiffy minimalistic usplash,
and I'm actually with you in the belief that the default splash should
probably have no text at all (not even the "starting your system" text
that some people propose, as I feel that's just pointlessly redundant).
However, while I would love to entertain suggestions for changes like
this for Edgy, these sort of changes *will* *not* *be* *in* *dapper*.
We're using usplash in dapper for prompting in the LiveCD, we've done
everything with rc.d messages and usplash for the last 6 months under
the assumption that it would always show text. 2.5 weeks before release
is *not* the time to change this. It is *not* "just an artwork change"
as people keep reasoning. I assure you, this is a technical change that
we can't really be making right now when we still have a variety of much
more harmful bugs to fix.
Please, pretty please with sugar on top, can we let this fork of the
discussion die until after June 1st?
I'm happy to look at new artwork that fits into the current
"logo/progress/text on a black background" scheme and does what we
currently expect it to do, as I understand that several people (again,
me included) aren't terribly happy with the current artwork. That's
really the only change we can and will make this late in the game,
though. Seriously.
