I agree here, Ubuntu is not Redhat, nor should it turn into Redhat. Or Gentoo.
Or SuSE. Or whatever other flawed distro of the week. And I don't mean that
in any flamebaity way, either.

The only reason I use Ubuntu is because it just happens to be the best distro
in existence. It does everything right, from starting with Debian (the former
title holder), and keeping Debian ideals (such as a pretty well designed
packaging policy and whatnot), to increasing desktop usability (which Debian
kind of lacked, or at least, didn't focus on, which isn't that bad at all),
to not being gimicky (such as Redhat's utter obsession with looking pretty,
above all other things... other distros have been caught doing this too).

So, yeah, in short, I prefer working above eyecandy, as does everyone else.
