de-uglyfying usplash, replace it with splashy/upower?

 Changing from vga16 to anything higher res on the framebuffer carries a
 small risk IMO.

 For example, I've seen VIA cards that can not switch properly from Xorg
 to the console anymore if you start with a higher res vesa mode.
