Smart Battery support

Hi

I've been looking at the kernel changes lately and found on
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/dapper-changes/2006-February/005873.html
this line on the changelog:
   * Added Smart Battery driver.

Which I think is a backport from 2.6.16rc1.

Does this means dapper won't need patched DSDT files from
acpi.sourceforge.net for laptops with broken ACPI or it will depend on
the model? i.e: Will this work as it works out of the box in winxp?
