Gnome Screensaver issues?

Wouldn't it be easier and less bug prone to just make gnome-screensaver 
support the defacto standard notification mechanism that xscreensaver 
uses, rather than doing the same thing over and over in many places? 
There's not a lot of time till Dapper is to release for making lots of 
changes.

gnome-screensaver and the downtimetasic rebootopia of dbus are all well 
and cool, but practicality and functionality are pretty important in an 
enterprise distro.
