The gnomevfs-fuse linked in your mail is unusable. I've spent some time
last year improving it but got stuck on errors with smbfs. Philip van
Hoof (gnome programmer) wanted to take a look at it but I haven't heard
from him since then.

Anyway, if you're interested, I still have my code available.
