I think your picture looks as intended,
but it really doesn't stretch properly to fit the screen:

As you can see the right side is fine, but the bottom and left sides are
off by about 5 millimeters, and the top edge is quite far away, about
20mm.

Monitor: Nec Multisync M700 (8 year old 17" CRT)
Motherboard chipset: nForce (4 year old)
Video card: ATI Radeon 9250 (oldish, but bought it only 3 months ago)
