Hi, I've had the same problem, and once you solve it's prety obvious... I
assume you're doing the same mistake I did.
The actual instructions ask you to do the following in a terminal session:
gksudo "update-manager -d". Do not forget the quotes. If you dont provide
the quotes, the -d option isn't going to be passed to update-manager, and
the update will not work.
(I knew I should have filed a bug for this but forgot to...)
