develop / debug applications

Hi All,

	I'm searching a lot of documentation about developing in Ubuntu (Linux
in general). I've read about gtk, c++ etc but my problem not is the
language or how to use the libraries. My problem is how to debug open
source applications. I want, for example, download gedit source in
ubuntu and debug it with anjuta IDE but i don't know how.

Can you help me? I need some help because i want to help ubuntu
community but if I don't know how to do it...
