Gnome-system-tools' author is currently rewriting it in a form of a
library called liboobs, but I don't know how much of it is actually
going to be rewritten.

The frontends are in c/c++ and the backends in perl today. This makes
things like bug # 14774 quite hard to fix - you have first to get to
understand all the relationship between the backend, the xml which goes
in the midlle and the frontends.
