I hear from some Gentoo users that --as-needed makes things load "a lot
faster," but has the downside that it makes things break "a lot more."
Anyone have any comments on this, as I try to figure out how to get
'apt-get build-dep gedit' to work on latest Edgy?
(the point is to 'DISPLAY="" time gedit' to get a rough estimate of how
long it takes gedit to load, figure out it can't start GTK+, and bail)
