And python-gdchart is all important because it's used by. . umm. .
.gimp, wait no. . .umm.  Rhythmbox-- no, wait.  Firefox!  . . .oh, that
doesn't depend on gdchart either.

Whoa, holy shitty design batman, a meta-package depends on a package
that none of the installed applications actually depend on!  Instead of
just conflicting the two against eachother, they mandated that the
desktop will have this useless developer's package!
