I find it a little annoying that I cannot run apt-get while I have adept open, 
however I really hated it when I was on dailup. Not being able to access the 
database for ~hour while a set of packages downloaded meant that I was 
tempted to bypass apt-get and just download the debs like I was used to on 
RedHat.

Also with 7zma/bzip2 compression applying deb-diffs could take a while. This 
probably wouldn't matter, if it were not the case that everything remotely 
related to dpkg takes out an exclusive lock on the dpkg database.
