Having observed my behaviour since the previous post, what I actually do is:

  1.  Click in URL bar
  2.  Press tab
  3.  Press shift-tab
  4.  Press Delete
  5.  Middle click-paste

This allows the program to do the selecting, *not* me, so that the Primary
clip-board is preserved.
