Hi,
Well I'm still not quite ready to share this with the world at large but
folks on this thread
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=91565&page=2 have been asking
about the Ubuntu packages for Project Looking Glass.
Initial packages are ready for review and I'd greatly appreciate
comments from this group with regard to the packaging and installation
locations. I think I followed the Ubuntu/Debian conventions, but some
review from the experts would be cool.
Here's the post from the forum with the download info and some caveats.....
Yes the packages did get created. We are still testing and refining but
seeing as you asked, you can find them at the bottom of this page
https://lg3d-core.dev.java.net/binary-builds.html
x64 support is still being worked on (just recompiling and testing
native code) so these pacakges are i386 only. There are 3 packages (due
to 3 different binary licenses, lg3d-core src is under GPL)
lg3d-jdk contains jdk 1.6 daily build
lg3d-java3d contains a pre-release build of Java 3D 1.4
lg3d-core contains all the lg3d components.
Note you must have the hardware accelerated OpenGL drivers installed.
The lg3d-core package updates gdm.conf to setup the system to use the
lg3d XOrg server (removing the package will undo the change).
Currently the post install script only works correctly for machines with
the NVIDIA drivers installed. For those with ATI cards you should
restore the original gdm.conf file after lg3d-core is installed (working
on the scripts to do this automagically). ATI users can then run lg3d in
'app' mode from within their normal desktop session,
/usr/share/lg3d/bin/lg3d-app. NVIDIA users can select lg3d at login time
(or use app mode if you wish).
Rgds
Paul
