kde removing gnome (and vice versa)

But then ubuntu-desktop would depend on remove-kde which would
conflict with, say, k3b or amarok  which I (and others) want even
though we use GNOME. The only way to get them would be to remove the
remove-kde and ubuntu-desktop packages, which is an unsupported
configuration and not good for dist-upgrades.
