Media testing!

I can't help but notice that the "test material" doesn't include the 
formats that are the most sought after by Ubuntu (or any "free" OS) users.

Dapper won't be any easier with multimedia then Breezy until this is 
solved (and as long as Ubuntu is free, I can't see how it can be 
solved).   If you don't know what formats I'm speaking of just take a 
look at what's most often brought up on the user mailing lists and 
ubuntuforums.org.    Better yet, if all of the multimedia "fixes" 
provided @ http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=66563 could be made 
moot by Dapper then you might be on to something.....

Other than the formats I'm referring to, I've never had a problem with 
GStreamer in it's 0.8 incarnation.  What does the new version provided 
that the old one didn't?
