Gnome Screensaver issues?

Also it is still not clear what screensaver will actually activate on
timeout and whether other tools (totem, mplayer, xine, tvtime, ...)
will be able to stop gnomescreensaver from activation when needed.
Both these problems must be solved before even considering switching
to gnomescreensaver.
Also it seems that gnomescreensaver developers have a NIH syndrome -
why could they not simply make a frontend to the existing and well
known xscreensaver? why must it be another application? a few hooks in
the xscreensaver code to lauch appropriate configuration frontend and
password request frontend would be much more useful.
