Ok, that's a bit embarrassing. I designed that "The image “<url>”
cannot be displayed, because it contains errors" message only to appear
in a browser window when the browser failed to display a standalone
image -- not to appear when trying to copy and paste a
successfully-displayed image into an e-mail program.
If you can reproduce that bug (I can't), report it on Mozilla's Gecko
component, and then mention your new bug report in
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=177747> (which is about a
similar symptom).
