It's a question of trade-offs.


Right now, 0.10 doesn't play some of the formats that 0.8 can (you can
add DVD playback to the list). However they are being worked on, and may
be ported before Dapper.

On the good side, there are several fundamental problems with 0.8 that
have been fixed. For the formats that are supported, you don't get the
horrible A/V sync issues. Seeking is *much* better. The gaps between
songs played with Rhythmbox or Totem is virtually gone.


If plugins for various formats aren't done by the time Dapper comes out,
it's possible to update later and have them work. If everything is
compiled against 0.8, then everyone is stuck with issues that have been
fixed in 0.10.
