I think we all understand that. The question I'm asking is this: Is
anyone trying to measure how well we're succeeding at this?

That's fine. But again, I'm just trying to ascertain whether anyone is
looking at this in a methodical way. You're absolutely right that (with
a few exceptions) the impact of an individual feature change might be
hard to measure, but it should be possible to tell whether we're
trending positive or negative with each release.

I know this kind of thing is sometimes hopelessly confused and difficult
to measure. I have seen situations where survey results show high
approval for a particular feature, but logs show that it's rarely used,
for example.

One of the most important things I've ever learned about making good
software is, 'Don't speculate; profile.' 8^)

I don't really think this is the place to dwell at length on a subject
such as this. I'm really just looking for a simple yes/no answer, which
can be taken elsewhere and pursued, if necessary.
