Without necessarily disagreeing with this assertion, and at the risk of
going slightly off-topic: Has anyone demonstrated a correlation between
marketing and user demographic?

I ask because I see many design decisions being made based on this
assumption (some contentious, some not so), so it makes sense to ask:

1) Is this the actual demographic we're getting? *Is* this a 'newbie'
distro?

2) How are these design decisions actually affecting uptake?

This is a developers' list, but having heard so many moan (and not just
on slashdot) that devs and users are often far removed from one another,
it seems to make sense for developers here to do what they do best -
that is, to profile the system accurately, and to understand the
implications of their actions.
