Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but reverting to a vesa driver doesn't
sound like a terribly difficult feature to build in. I suspect
maintaining 'fail-safe' xorg binaries might be a good deal less trivial.
Anyway, if anyone's counting votes, I'll raise my hand in support of a
'revert-to-vesa' feature, and would be happy to provide testing and
feedback. Most of the people using Ubuntu here in Vanuatu would never be
able to recover from a problem such as this without a GUI.
